Lawn

  • Bermuda & St. Augustine:
    Decrease water, to 1-2x per week. A total of 1 inch per week should be applied.
  • Fescue:
    Water fescue 2-3x per week. A total of 1.5 inches per week should be applied.
    Raise mower to 3.5-4 inches tall.

Trees & Plants

  • Wrap large, newly planted palms that are borderline hardy for the first 2 years. (Ex. California and especially Mexican fan palms.)
  • This is one of the best time of the year for planting shrubs and especially trees
  • Buy trees and plant now!

Flowers

  • Winter color can be planted, like pansies, cabbage, kale and stock.
  • Spring and summer flowering bulbs and perennials can be divided.
  • Buy your spring flowering bulbs now so you can chill and plant after November.

Garden

  • Sow Elbon rye to rid any nematodes and to add nutrient to the soil.
  • Use organic fertilizers like Fox Farm on a monthly basis.
  • This is a good time to begin a compost pile, or add to an existing one that is started.
